This musical work, for mezzo-soprano and wind quintet, was born thanks to the interest shown by Zoar Ensemble in expanding the current repertoire. This chamber music group has commissioned this new composition from me with the idea of premiering it on November 10, 2013, together with the singer Anna Alàs, as part of the Autumn Concert Series organized by the Museo de Bellas Artes from A Coruña

This work sets to music three texts from Rosalía de Castro’s poetry collection Follas Novas, which, although they were published in 1880, are still very current.

I. Why? (Why?) It has a strong psychodramatic content. The arrival of the tax collectors terrifies the villagers. Musical accents, ostinati and tempo changes predominate, as well as the use of parlando in the voice.

II. A xusticia pola man (Justice by hand) is the only one written in the past tense. The story of a decadent society and a corrupt, practically non-existent justice progresses at a waltz pace.

III. Xigantescos olmos, mirtos (Giant elms, myrtres) has a very marked dance rhythm and is rich in arpeggios, depicting happiness and its transience, as well as the refusal to assume culpability on the part of society.
