Allegro spiritoso – Con dolcezza – Scherzettino (Molto vivace) – Allegro giocoso

The Sinfonietta, for 14 wind instrument and percussion players is a vivacious, youthful work of great instrumental color, where the power of 13 wind instruments and a percussionist come together in fully orchestral textures.

The Allegro spiritoso, in sonata form, stands out for the timbral and coloristic protagonism of the percussion and the long interventions of the soloists.

Con dolcezza is a slow and tender movement with a strong direction and surprising effects regarding the treatment of the brass with very lyrical melodies and soft ambiences of muted harmonies.

In the Scherzettino, the absence of lower instruments (bassoons, trombone and tuba) and the very fast tempo make it very curious, while its high and burlesque sonorities acquire luminosity and brightness.

The last movement is altogether different. It starts with the low brass in the style of a powerful choir. The Allegro that follows begins in fugato form, written in a more chamber music style and with constant changes of irregular meters. The trombone plays the second theme as a solo, and there is a brilliant final Coda dominated by the timpani.
