Tonades is a small collection of piano pieces with a clear didactic aim. I have tried to combine elements from traditional music from the Balearic Islands together with well-known musical forms, using a personal language, typical of the 20th century. The technical demand is that of an intermediate level in music. My main intention was to contribute to and enrich the intermediate level piano repertory, while promoting the knowledge of our own popular roots. The parts that make up Tonades can be performed consecutively, presenting the complete work with variety and unity, or the parts can be played separately. The work is dedicated to all young piano students.
In this edition it has been included the “ Berceuse for Lidia ” as an independent work from “Tonades“, because it is also based on Balearic folklore sources. However, the composer’s motivation was not the same. It was composed in February 2002 and dedicated to the composer’s daughter, Lidia, two months after her birth. As the most significant theme, the melody was taken from the lullaby “ Sa nineta té soneta”. Its tender and sweet features are subtly noticed.
