¡Dios Mío! ¡Qué solos se quedan los muertos! (My God! How Lonely the Dead Remain!)

This work features an unusual instrumental combination, yet it has parallels with other compositions from the same period. The opening bars evoke the darkest moments found in the works of Wagner and Liszt, immersing the listener in the turbulent world created by these two great 19th-century musical geniuses. It is characterized by low notes, dark harmonies, and chromaticism.

From bar 17 onwards, a sense of hope and luminosity emerges, characterized by serene and joyful harmonies, syncopated rhythms, tied notes, and suspensions in the violins and violas. Beginning at bar 40, the string instruments alternate a rhythmic motif consisting of a dotted eighth note, a sixteenth note, and a half note. The piece continues to grow brighter, culminating in a powerful climax at bars 75 and 79.
