Composed in 2007 and dedicated to the great clarinet player Harry Sparnaay. It is written in one continuous movement and it uses atonal language. The concerto is highly demanding for the soloist, the orchestral part is articulated around oscillating and long, slow movements, resembling the pattern of the waves in their different states. The low color of the bass clarinet is what gives the title to the piece black waves.
