This piece was composed for Josef Gingold, violinist, Concertmaster of Cleveland Symphony, and teacher of both James and Helen Niblock during a Summer Session at Colorado College. Gingold performed this on one of his many recitals that summer. Since then Helen’s first performance was with pianist, Josef Blatt, for the Chamber Music society of Green Valley, Arizona. The piece is particularly appealing to violinists because of its long singing lines which exploit the range from lowest G string to upper range of the E string; meanwhile the pianist explores a florid and interesting accompaniment.
