Year of composition
This composition for violin, clarinet and piano is based upon Dvořák ‘s Romanza for violin and piano.
It is not a literal transcription, but it uses the thematic material, harmonic content, and structure to create an original composition. The thematic material is passed among all three instruments while maintaining Dvořák’s formal design throughout.
Since its premier in 1990 by the Verdehr Trio, it has become a standard in the repertoire of many violin, clarinet and piano trios.
