Year of composition
Written at the request of Walter & Elsa Verdehr who have performed the concertos One & Two extensively and internationally, Number Three is in four movements:
The first movement features two lyrical themes alternating with contrasting rhythmic motives.
The second movement is a three-part song-form with violin, clarinet and orchestra presenting the thematic material in random sequence.
The third movement consists of a lively duet between violin and clarinet after which the last movement , in short rondo form, brings the concerto to a brilliant close.
