Tientos Tango en Diciembre, for flute ensemble and cajón (optional)

Tientos Tango en Diciembre is a composition that embraces the deepest duality of the last month of the year: the warmth of gatherings and the fragility hidden within farewells, the embraces that illuminate and the tears that purify.

Set over the hybrid meter of Tientos–Tango, the piece proposes a shared journey, a slow sway that moves forward with the weight of what has been lived and the hope of what is yet to come. The melodic motifs emerge like small sparks—gifts offered without paper or ribbon—and intertwine with harmonies that evoke the gentle nostalgia of long dinners, cold streets, and confidences shared under soft light. Each musical phrase caresses time, inviting a luminous introspection.

In its final section, the composition expands into a contained celebration through Bulería, like a hand opening to welcome the new year. Tientos Tango en Diciembre is, in essence, music for walking together: a shared waiting that transforms the everyday into ritual, the intimate into celebration, and what has been lived into a renewed horizon.
