We would like to introduce a member of our editorial family since 2021: DAN TURCANU, violinist, composer, arranger

Dan Turcanu was born in Chisinau, Moldova in 1985 and was repatriated to Bucharest, Romania in 1994. His studies at George Enescu National School of Music galvanized Dan’s development as a violinist and awoken the composer in him. Later, Dan went to the National University of Music in Bucharest where he studied composition.
Some of Dan’s chamber works were awarded at national competitions.
Upon graduation, Dan received an internship at the National Historical Park in Sitka, Alaska, where he was tasked with remaking, completing and translating Orthodox Slavonic books and scores belonging to the Russian Missionary Church brought by the Russian Imperial colony of the 18th century.
Between 2012-2016, Dan lived and worked in the United Arab Emirates where he also formed the Al Ain Chamber Orchestra. It was in this period where Dan’s creativity and ingenuity in arrangements began to flourish. It was also during this time he was exposed to and enchanted by the mystical world of Arabic music.
Dan is primarily active in chamber music genres. He favors expressive virtuosity, always looking for unusual organic instrumentations, often challenging the capabilities of the performers. Most of his music gravitates toward simpler melodies, neoclassical modes, harmonic experiments and with touches of dance-like and character spirit.
To date, he has arranged hundreds of pieces for students, amateurs, professionals, from solo pieces to orchestral pieces, from classical repertoires to traditional folk music from the east to the west. Dan is also actively composing new works.
