Howard Niblock (b. 1950) is Professor of Oboe at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin, U.S.A. He has been on the faculty there since 1981. Trill Ride is an oboe duet that was written for two of his Lawrence Conservatory oboe students, Elissa Harbert and Anna Schmidt, and was premiered by them on Elissa’s senior degree recital in 2005. The piece builds to a climax based on the special woodwind technique of double trilling, where extra-fast trills are achieved by using two fingers (or keys) for the trill instead of one.
