Written during the summer of 1993, this work was commissioned by the Granollers Music Festival. It was premiered at the festival’s closing concert by the ever-admired Albert Giménez Atenelle, who gave an impeccable performance.

As its title suggests, Toccata is an intense, short work of great virtuosity. The piano is treated with a markedly percussive character throughout its entire range, with an idiomatic interplay of the hands that creates a dynamic effect.

The structure follows an A-B-A form with a CODA, where section B has a slightly more relaxed character in terms of rhythm, dynamics, and texture. The CODA blends the B theme with rhythmic elements from section A, bringing the piece to a striking and impactful conclusion.
