In 2018, the young and tremendously talented pianist Víctor Braojos commissioned three Catalan composers to write a short piano work to be premiered at his final degree concert at the ESMUC. These composers were Benet Casablancas, Josep Maria Guix and myself. I decided to write an elegiac work entitled Epitafi, motivated by the recent tragedy of the terrorist attacks of August 17, 2017 in Barcelona. Beyond the purely musical result of the commission, I feel very fortunate to have been able to meet Victor and work closely with him. Throughout many rehearsals and reviews around Epitafi, a friendship arose that I deeply appreciate.
