Year of composition
For some time now, and on a regular basis, collaboration with clarinetist Josep Fuster has resulted in premieres, performances and recordings of very varied works for the solo clarinet.
I wrote Caprici boreal for the recording of a CD dedicated to the repertoire for solo clarinet. As in other compositions dedicated to Josep Fuster, I wanted the work to be designed around two basic elements: the virtuosity and expressiveness.
Structured in one movement, this caprice contains a brief melody that appears at different times with the function of simultaneously separating and giving continuity to the various episodes.
The title refers to the air element. The clarinet creates sketches as it oscillates between different registers, using color changes and creating contrasts of timbre. The intention is to convey a sense of fluid movement while juxtaposing different colors.
