Recull popular balear (Balearic folk-songs) was written as a commission from the Govern Balear. It was originally conceived for orchestra and a big children’s choir. It was premiered in the Monestir de Lluc in Mallorca with the participation of many children choirs of the Balearic Islands, the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears, Ciutat de Palma, under the direction of the composer. The piece has also been written to be performed by an orchestra alone.
The Recull is a medley of beautiful well known popular tunes of the Islands (3 from Mallorca, 3 from Ibiza, 2 from Menorca and one common to all the islands) freely harmonized, arranged with an appropriate counterpoint, linked with adequate musical bridges and a colourful instrumentation.
