Composed during the summer of 2018, the Symphony No. 7 “Ausiàs March” originated in the same way as the Symphony No. 6 “Concise”: The musical association “La Lira Castellonera” of Vilanova de Castelló commissioned a work for large symphonic band to be premiered as a free composition in the International Bands Contest in the city of Valencia in 2019. After its premiere, I orchestrated this piece for symphony orchestra.
Looking for ideas for the new composition, I was struck by the magnificent poems by the great Renaissance poet Ausias March. It was not only his extraordinary poetic work that impressed me, but also his active life as a person. I discovered that before writing verses, Ausias was first an armed knight who participated in several war expeditions, and later was named falconer of King Alfonso the Magnanimous. These two facets together with that of a great universal poet sourced my inspiration for the four movements of this Symphony.
