These three duets construct a rhythmic composition of martial character.
I. Introduction
II. Funeral march
III. Invention
Heavily influenced by American military music, these duets reflect three very different scenes. While the Introduction is eminently carefree, martial and festive throughout, the Funeral march moves subtly evoking sad, continuous and almost silent weeping, which is mainly reinforced by the absence of the drone and by its gentle tempo. To give hope, an Invention then arises, which is anchored in lively virtuosity, in which a theme develops contrapuntally, alternating and varying between the two performers of the chamber formation, reaching a conclusive and powerful final with which the composition comes to an end.
