This Sonata was written for Howard Niblock and was premiered on the concert series at the Lawrence University. It has been performed on several other occasions. The first movement begins with long lyrical lines in the oboe and a moving accompaniment followed by rapid motivic designs alternating between the oboe and piano. The second movement features rapidly changing asymmetrical designs. The third movement is a traditional ABA song form and the last movement is also a three part form bringing the sonata to a brilliant close.
