“Ode to Verdaguer” was written in 2001 by commission of Vic’s City Hall to commemorate the centenary of the poet’s death. It includes Verdaguer major themes: the love of nature, the exaltation of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ, the pain of life, and love for the country and the Catalan language. The purpose of composition was, at the generic level, follows the poet’s life: childhood, adolescence, years of plenitude, the hard knocks of life, death, and finally, his love for the land of Catalonia.
