Missa per la pau (Mass for peace) (Score)

The Mass for peace was written during the winter of 2021, commissioned by El cor canta to be premiered at its annual concert at L’Auditori de Barcelona in 2022. Despite not being a follower of any faith, I found many expressive possibilities in the text of the Catholic Mass, with contrasts between the different parts, with which to write some powerful and communicative music. The title gives special emphasis to the last movement, Dona nobis pacem, which is independently added to Agnus Dei. Peace in the world is a universal desire.

The instrumentation is deliberately not too large, but very intense. I have chosen to enjoy more brass and thus less woodwind. The commission was for a maximum of 40 musicians. The strings give thickness and warmth, while the brass brings consistency of sound. The percussion stands out with the cold sounds of the vibraphone and the glockenspiel that, combined with the harp, give a different color.
