The symphonic poem for two coblas, timpani and harp, Fra Garí refers to a legend from Montserrat that places us in the time of Count Guifré el Pelós. The legend tells us that the hermit Fray Joan Garí, although his attitude was one of constant penance, was tempted by the devil, and he raped and murdered Riquilda, the count’s daughter. In order to recover spiritually, he had to expiate his guilt with the penance of walking on all fours until he was forgiven by a child.

This work, which is conceived as a narrative and dynamic musical discourse, was premiered in Barcelona on November 23, 1963, by the coblas Barcelona and La Principal de Badalona.
