This brief work in a single movement begins in a pointillist style. This gradually condenses the elements until the pointillism turns into fast passages that are like improvisation. Further on, coinciding with the culmination section, a retrograde development again gives way to the initial pointillism. Features such as double sounds, glissando trills, frullatos and rapid changes in register and dynamic, are applied in this work as expressive elements. These, together with the passages of scales and arpeggios in sixteenth notes, make the tuba an agile and dynamic instrument.
In 2017, D. Vicente López recorded a CD of works for tuba entitled M’encanta Murcia [I love Murcia], which includes a recording of Fantasy for solo tuba.
