Year of composition
Throughout this Epitaph to the memory of Hans Rott I have used musical quotations taken from different Rott’s works, and at the same time I have applied in my own style some of the processes he was most fond of, such as the unstoppable crescendos, or the use of pedal notes as an expressive device. This work concludes with an extended triad E major (his most beloved tonality) chord, in the highest register of the strings. As it fades away, all the turbulences, frustrations and laments which have been invoked dissolve into a peaceful and solemn silence.
