Ave Maria (voice and orchestra)

This piece was written in May, 1982. It also includes a version for solo voice, choir and orchestra. During the composition process, what was supposed to be an instrumental piece became an Ave Maria, thanks to the suggestion of the composer’s wife when she heard him playing the piece on the piano.

Toni Mateu, the composer’s tutor, who was also sub-director of the Conservatori Professional de Música i Dansa de les Illes Balears and organist of the cathedral, reviewed the first instrumentation written by Llorenç Borràs de Riquer, and helped him to place the Latin text in the vocal part of the piece. At the request of the composer, Salvador Brotons made the present orchestration.
