The piece is structured as a theme and four variations. The theme (Canción – Song) is a very expressive Adagio, which leads to the variations. The first variation (Miniatura – Miniature) is an Andante, where the clarinet (or saxophone) and the piano, complement each other with an energetic and humorous character. The second variation (Expansión – Expansion) is a Lento, very singing and gentle. The third variation (Caricatura – Cartoon), is an Andantino grazioso, with a comical character. The fourth variation (Final – End) is a Moderato, in which the virtuosity of the performer stands out.
