Margarida Orfila’s Sonata consists of three movements and has the motto “Visca lo clàssich”, a work that overflows with freshness and transparency. The first movement “Senzill y sense córrer” (Simple and without hurrying) has short motifs with a clear articulation characteristic of the classical style. The second movement is a theme with six variations on a popular melody. The composer shows her imaginative capacity in each new variation and an excellent knowledge of piano writing. The last variation of this second movement is a “Fuga” in three voices, which was published by the magazine Ilꞏlustració Catalana. The third movement “Volant” (Flying) presents from the beginning a dizzying cascade of notes that culminates the work brilliantly.
