Són teus ullets (Your little eyes), for mixed choir

Són teus ullets is a beautiful folk melody from the island of Menorca. Its lyrics, which are ancient in origin and romantic in nature, tell the story of someone who is deeply in love but disappointed by their beloved’s lack of fidelity.

Musically, the piece begins in a minor key to evoke sadness and then moves to a major key for a more exalted and expressive second section.

This version for mixed choir a cappella was commissioned by the Catalan Federation of Choral Entities, at the request of the highly admired conductor Manel Cabero, who invited me to create this adaptation in 1983. I did so with great pleasure, coincidentally in the same year that I married my Menorcan wife.
