Sis cançons sobre “Els colors de la nit” de Francesc Garriga i Barata (Six songs about “The colors of the night” by Francesc Garriga I Barata)

The first time I celebrated Sant Jordi from the other side of the booths, given that I had an hour surrounded by books waiting for someone to be interested in my writings, it was me who finally became interested in a thick blue book that contained the complete works of a poet I did not know.

The author of the lyrics of these six songs is Francesc Garriga i Barata, a poet with a simple writing, but at the same time, endowed with a complexity that is not evident in each of his verses. So, I decided to write songs about the poems that I liked the most. After reading some of the collections of poems included in the book, I was especially drawn to the work The colors of the night. My intention was to write a long cycle, about twenty poems, but once I wrote them, I realized that, as Garriga i Barata’s verses are, it was more interesting to write fewer songs, but of better quality.

The result of these six songs has been, for me, an attempt to make pleasant music, but with a more modern language than what I have done so far. Finally, I want to dedicate this work to my singing teacher, the magnificent soprano Ana Puche Rosado.
