This work for solo guitar was composed in 2001 by commission of the prestigious guitarist Gabriel Estarellas and the Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporánea. The work is inspired by the four personality types described by Hippocrates: The Bloody is a quick temper, yet friendly, sociable, confident and outgoing. The Phlegmatic is calm, immutable, controlled and persistent. It is often of reasoned principles and deeply thoughtful. The Melancholic temperament is more desperate and anxious. The Choleric is the brutal movement, exalted, active, of insistent rhythm and vitality. It is a very communicative and high-contrasting piece.
