Nocturne for an island was the first choral piece by the composer. It was written during the spring of 1982 under the tutelage of Professor Oltra, at that time teaching Composition at the Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona. This nocturne was part of the composition course requirements. I was immediately captivated by the text of the Menorquian poet Pere Gomila, which is emotional, tender and at the same time vindictive. The Nocturne was premiered in the Festival de Cantonigrós and was awarded the 1982 Orfeó Laudate Prize. (Salvador Brotons)
