Despite the fact that the title of the piece indicates “small symphonic poem”, Montmagastre is not a descriptive work. Rather, it resembles dance music with a certain catalan popular flair, but with an original theme. It is a very well structured composition (like the majority of pieces by this composer), written originally for ‘cobla’ in 1970. Some years later, the composer himself arranged this version for orchestra.
