Santiago de Murzia (1673-1739) was one of the most important guitarists and composers of the Spanish Baroque together with Gaspar Sanz, Francisco de Guerau, Antonio de Santa Cruz and others.

Gaitas is a piece for baroque guitar (called, in the XVII and XVIII centuries, Spanish guitar) extracted from the Codex Saldivar nº4. This book contains the manuscript of the work of Santiago de Murzia, found in a bookstore in León de Guanajuato, Mexico, in 1943 by the renowned Mexican musicologist Dr. Gabriel Saldívar y Silva (1909-1980).

This melody reminds us of the Catalan folk Christmas song El noi de la mare.

This arrangement is aimed at professionals and students who want to deepen the work of chamber music by reinforcing the work in the 4th and 7th position of the guitar and strummed in chords in the rhythmic parts.
