In South Africa in 1983, the brutal repression of the movement against apartheid lead to the execution, among many, of the poet Benjamin Moloise, considered by his population as a martyr of freedom.
With this Elegy, I sought to pay homage to him, along with so many other persons who gave their lives to the fight for the abolition of racial segregation. Through the music, I wanted to express the feeling of rage and desolation at a time when the blind violence of the racist government was plunging us into the deepest pessimism.
