The two musicians play four pitched percussion instruments: xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, and glockenspiel, in various combinations. After a slow and magical introduction dominated by the vibraphone and the glockenspiel, a rapid rhythmic section follows with the xylophone and the marimba as the protagonists. A relaxed central part evokes the themes of the introduction and a new, although much modified, Allegro takes on the insistent rhythm to end with a virtuoso Coda.
