This work is the orchestration of a piece originally written for guitar, awarded First Prize in the first edition of the Miquel Llobet International Competition for Guitar Composition 2020, in Barcelona. It is inspired by the poem of the same name by Miguel Hernández, whose voice, as a native of Elche, I feel very close to. The depth of his words has accompanied me throughout my life, and seeking the creative impulse in his verses was, more than a choice, a natural return to my roots.

Although there is a certain structural affinity between the poem and the music, there is no literal correspondence between them. The work does not illustrate the text, but rather attempts to translate the atmosphere it suggests to me. I set out to capture that fragile beauty which, beneath its delicacy, may conceal profound dangers. Hence its subtitle: “Today love is death, and man lies in wait for man.”
