The origin of this short work is a commission by Salvador Navarro Valero, companion, friend and clarinetist of the Quartet Vert. The language used is due to Salvador himself who, when he asked me to compose the piece, suggested that I use the contemporary style of Maestro Blanquer’s composition students. For this reason, and as a result of it, the work is written with a clear tonal and jazz influence. The syncopated rhythm of the introduction dominates, and is treated as a germ cell throughout the work, along with the melody, in which I use the repeated “blue notes” characteristic of the expressive jazz style. All this is within a harmony inherent to the language together with a constant and characteristic rolling swing.
