Solerianeta (2012-AV71d), for alto saxophone and piano

(Fantasy on Father Soler’s Fandango)

It is a fantasy based on the Fandango for keyboard of Padre Soler, which largely reveals the virtuosity of both the saxophone and the piano. The most notable parameters of variation with respect to the original source, are the structural organization, thematic combination, a personal use of harmony, abundance of polyrhythmias, textural treatment of the characteristic low ostinato, etc.

The detailed analysis of this work can be found in the book written by Andrés Valero-Castells: La música del P. Soler como idea en la composición moderna, published in the Compendium Musicae collection No. 10, of the Institució Alfons el Magnànim (Diputación de Valencia, 2012).

The original version was written for trumpet and piano (2009-AV71), recorded discographically by the duos formed by Rubén Simeó and Alejo Amoedo, and Luis González and Salvador Mestre. There are versions for a saxophone quartet (2011-AV71b) or a clarinet quartet (2015-AV71c), both with optional percussion, recorded by the Púrpura Pansa saxophone quartet, and the clarinet quartet Vert. The present version for alto saxophone and piano (2012-AV71d), although it was projected a long time ago, now appears as a fourth version, promoted by the duo formed by José Carlos Luján and Miguel Álvarez-Argudo, who have made the first recording of this version. The four versions are published by Brotons & Mercadal publishing company.
