This work is the result of a commission from the Companyia de Teatre Popular de Barcelona for the theatrical production based on the poem Canigó by Jacint Verdaguer, with dramaturgy and direction by Esteve Polls, premiered in 1979. The following year, Fèlix Martínez Comín, author of the music, wrote a concerto suite for cobla expanded with harp, percussion, one or two narrators and mezzo-soprano for one of the pieces.
This transcription, commissioned by the Municipal Band of Barcelona, has the presence of flabiol, tible and tenora to maintain the timbre of the cobla and, at the same time, combine it with the symphonism of the band.
