This work was composed for my former student Jennifer Hodges Bryan, who has been for many years the principal oboist of the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra in Wisconsin. The work sets up a contrast between melodic material (based on 3rds and 2nds) and harmonic material (based on the 4ths and 5ths derived from open strings).
